All Things Abalone
This is the first time the Abalone Festival has been held in Monterey. Monterey is rich in abalone culture and conservation efforts. The festival will feature lectures, documentary films, live performances, cultural demonstrations, and historical walking tours. Spend a day in Monterey, immersed in information and cultural events celebrating abalone.

2025 Hiroshima Nagasaki Remembrance
On August 6 and 9, the world will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. Shinsho-Mugen Daiko will take part in the event and send a message to the world that such an incident will never happen again, honoring those who suffered.

Marina National Night Out
National Night Out, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, promotes community-police partnerships and community safety. This annual event is held on the first Tuesday in August in most states.
Monterey Obon Festival
Obon is an annual celebration to honor the spirits of ancestors. During this time, ancestors return to visit their descendants, and families gather to pay respect. People visit family graves and come together to share delicious meals and family stories. The main event is the colorful dancing, which the whole community gathers for and joins in. Shinsho Mugen Daiko will take part in this traditional event with our drumming.
Independence Day Celebration Parade
Monterey's annual 4th of July Parade is a must-attend celebration that draws approximately 15,000 people to line the streets in and around Old Monterey. It's one of a series of events that turns Downtown Monterey into an all-day celebration of country and community.

2nd Annual Moonflower Festival
This FREE event celebrates Asian American culture, music, and dance. Many local Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders will participate.

Sea Otter Classic
We are participating in the annual Sea Otter Classic, the most significant cycling and outdoor sports festival on the Monterey Peninsula. Many professional and amateur athletes participate in this event.




Hiroshima-Nagasaki Remembrance and Peace lantern Ceremony
Commemoration of the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan. The Monterey County branch of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) invites the public to gather to honor those who suffered and still suffer from the 1945 bombings by the United States on the people of Japan.










Moonflower Festival
The first annual Moonflower Festival will be held at Palenke Arts on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 11 am to 2 pm. This FREE event is a celebration of AAPI culture.


Run Rudolph Run
Run Rudolph Run is a great way to raise awareness of and help defeat arthritis. Bring friends and family together to kick off the season of giving, decked out in holiday attire!





Akimatsuri-Fall Festival
The New Mexico Japanese-American Citizens League (NMJACL) has been hosting Aki Matsuri (trans.: fall festival) for over twenty years. The festival is the main annual event for NMJACL and serves as a venue to share Japanese and Japanese-American (JA) culture with all of New Mexico. Proceeds from the festival benefit NMJACL’s ongoing efforts to document events and history related to Japanese-American internment in New Mexico and the southwest and funds for constructing a cultural center.

Hiroshima Nagasaki Remembrance
August 2023 marks the 78th anniversary of the atomic bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom invites the public to attend the 19th Annual Peace Lantern Ceremony at Lovers Point Cove in Pacific Grove, CA, on Saturday, August 5th, 7 pm - 9 pm.
The program opens with Taiko drumming by Shinsho-Mugen Daiko. All are invited to decorate lanterns with peace messages and images. The lanterns will be set afloat on the cove waters after dark. Shakuhachi (bamboo) flutist Jim Scott-Behrends will play as the lanterns serenely circle the cove waters, pulled by kayaks.
